Where?

Our home ground is Talbot Park where we have excellent facilities and a number of pitches. Directions for the club can be found here:

https://acklamrufc.rfu.club/contacts

Talbot Park is a dog friendly site. During training and matches, dogs must be kept on a lead. All dog mess must be picked up and disposed of appropriately. Dogs are also welcome in the clubhouse, but keep in mind that it can get very busy on match days.

Kit and Equipment

Studded rugby or football boots are essential, even for the younger age grades who play tag rugby. Once children move to contact rugby, they also require a gum shield. Players may also wish to wear a scrum cap or shoulder pads.

As well as the above, ensure your child comes down with a bottle of water and weather appropriate sportswear. Rugby is played in autumn, winter and spring, so consider waterproofs and warm clothing. For adults as well as children.

Muddy clothing and boots are not allowed upstairs in the clubhouse. If you wish to go in to the bar, ensure your child has a change of clothes.

On match days, the club provides playing shirts. The rest of the playing kit consists of black shorts and black socks with green and white stripes. Playing shirts will be handed out on match day and must be handed back after the match.

After matches, players wear a white shirt or polo shirt, black or grey trousers and a club tie.

Club ties and socks are available behind the bar. Any other club specific kit is available here:

Communication

Team specific communications are sent out via WhatsApp. Whilst training and match days are organised via Spond. It can also be useful to follow our social media channels for club news and notifications.

The club website also contains important information regarding the governance of the club, as well as contact information for club representatives.

Health and Safety

The health and safety of your child is the top priority of everyone at Acklam RUFC. As such all teams have a registered first aider to address on field injuries.

As well as our current first aiders, if any parent or carer wishes to become a club first aider, inform the age grade lead, or mini’s & midi’s lead know, and we can get that organised.

Discipline

Playing rugby involves some risks, and we maintain a firm but fair approach to discipline. If a child's conduct becomes unacceptable or dangerous, they will receive an explanation and be asked to refrain from the behaviour. If the behaviour persists, they may be instructed to sit out the session for ten minutes. In case of continued misbehaviour, your Coach will discuss the matter with the child's parent or carer.

Swearing, in any form, is not tolerated by children or accompanying adults. We encourage you to read our Parent Charter Booklet, available in the clubhouse or online at [INSERT LINK], to help us create a safe and enjoyable environment for all children.

Support

Support for our next generation of players is both vital and appreciated. Please remember that all of our coaches are volunteers, and all our players are children. Please refrain from using foul and abusive language, and keep all feedback positive. Use phrases like “play hard” and “have fun”. After the match say “how did you do?” and “did you enjoy yourself?”.

Another way to support the children, and the club, is by volunteering. Acklam RUFC is run by volunteers, and we rely on members to lend a hand when needed. This can be as informal as helping in the kitchen on match days, or becoming a registered first aider or coach. We have a number of areas in which people can help. If you are interested in volunteering, then feel free to talk to your coach, or any member of the club committee, who will steer you in the right direction.

Registration

If Acklam sounds like the club for you, then children will need to register as players, and affiliate with the rugby club. This ensures that players under our care are protected by our youth section rules and covered by relevant insurance. This can be done by following the link to the RFU GMS website. Once registered, there is a 4 week trial period to see if your child enjoys themselves. After that they will need to become a member. The cost for membership is £30 per child. Parents can also become social members, which entitles you to discounts behind the bar.

We also use Spond to manage the various teams around training and matches. Again, registration for this can be done using the link below.
